I have a question about Bin Laden.?

This might be a stupid question but i want to know. Was Bin Laden ever in the U.S. military? My friend told me that he was a U.S. trained soldier and helped the U.S. win wars but when U.S. started bother pakistan, he turned against them. So can someone please tell me if that's true?
